90's Supermodel Makeup - Ultra Matte Finish
Given the ongoing trend for 90's fashion ranging from bodycon to grunge, it appears the 90's supermodel makeup look is also here to stay. Influenced by a multitude of pics from tumblr and instagram on a daily basis, a treasure trove of magazine archives have been opened up to serve as inspiration for our favourite decade.
1990 -1998 were truly the age of the supermodel. From Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Stephanie Seymour, Tatjana Patitz and Kate Moss, to 'The Trinity' that was Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell these models led the pack in ways which we had never seen before. From numerous magazine covers, big advertising deals, music video and film appearances, to infamous relationships with rock stars and actors all elements had a hand in creating the 'superstar' personalities of these models.
What stood out amongst all was the perfected makeup look. Matte finish makeup with tones of brown and taupe, heavily sculptured cheekbones, darkly lined lips, nude and brown lipstick shades, big bouncy and backcombed hair. Makeup artists like Kevin Aucoin perfected this style, with photographers like Herb Ritts and Peter Lindbergh capturing for us all. As the decade went on, the eyebrows may have gotten thinner, but the look we covet the most is the deeply filled in brow of the early 90's, never shying away from big statements. With elements of grunge, a newer take was Kate Moss's look, although while not vampy, deeper plummy lips became more popular as the decade bowed out.
